“We are what we believe we are!” C.S. Lewis
Last spring, my friend, Nicholle, posted this quote on Facebook. I immediately realized that it was the perfect “tagline” for I’m amazing. Not only did it reinforce our core message, but it fit perfectly with our name.
It also brings to mind a Dove ad that was released two years ago for their Self-Esteem Project. They placed signs above two doors in multiple cities worldwide and watched which door women walked through: Average or Beautiful. Many chose Average. Their research shows that “only 4% of women around the world consider themselves beautiful.”1 Even after people watched the video, the comments beneath are often Average. Or even worse—women asking for the Below Average option or saying they would walk away completely rather than “subject myself to judgement and self-hatred just to go to the store”.
We—women, men, girls, boys—are all beautiful in our own way. Being true to ourselves, kindness, laughter, integrity, determination and tolerance are the foundations for true beauty.
Next time you look in the mirror, say “I’m amazing” and choose beautiful. We are what we believe we are!
